About us
The AI Education Project (aiEDU) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit devoted to making sure that all students are ready to live, work, and thrive in a world where AI is everywhere.
We work with education systems to advance AI literacy and AI readiness through high quality curriculum, professional development, and strategic partnerships with states, school districts, and other systems
Why teach AI?
Our challenge
aiEDU began in 2019 with a meeting with a 20,000-student school district located in one of the most vulnerable communities to AI and automation, where we learned that students had no exposure whatsoever to AI education. Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already an inescapable part of our world, our economy, and our K12 education system. And we are only at the dawn — the transformation underway will redefine the essential skills needed for America’s students to compete and keep up in a rapidly shifting workforce.
This moment will define the trajectory of an entire generation of students, and we must urgently step up to meet the challenge.
We need to redefine skills for an AI driven future and recognize the transformation underway changes what students to keep up and compete. There is an urgent need for AI Readiness in education — and it is only growing. The world will be divided by those with access and those without. This moment demands a national coalition that’s aligned behind a shared vision — or we risk leaving millions of students behind.ore about why AI literacy is so important →
Our Theory of Change
We believe that preparing all students means supporting the educators in school systems, and families across the country, to embed AI Readiness into the core of their teaching and learning programs. By providing tangible classroom materials that show the “how” of teaching AI literacy skills, professional support for teachers, administrators and systems leaders to develop vision, strategy and implementation, and building community support, we aim to become trusted partners in navigating this new reality. This approach ensures students and educators don’t simply become fluent in new tools, but build durable and enduring skills.
How we define AI literacy
AI literacy is the collection of skills and knowledge that a person needs to understand, use, and critically evaluate artificial intelligence. A person who is AI literate has the ability to use AI tools to function effectively in modern society. They understand AI impacts and make informed decisions, can leverage AI to achieve their goals, and can develop their knowledge and career potential without necessarily understanding the technical details of how AI systems are constructed.
