Ohio spotlight: aiEDU’s work on model AI policy development
COLUMBUS, Ohio — aiEDU’s work in Ohio is continuing — and it includes an updated AI Toolkit and Policy Development Protocol published this week.
One of the reasons that aiEDU’s partnership with Ohio stands out is its integrated approach and the longevity of the partnership. aiEDU began its work in Ohio with a pilot in Akron Public Schools in 2020. Since then, aiEDU has expanded to support students, teachers, and school administrators across the state.
The toolkit and policy protocol is an example of a statewide, integrated approach and how aiEDU can plug in to support AI Readiness.
The toolkit and policy protocol is organized into several key areas designed to support AI Readiness, including an AI policy development protocol. It includes acceptable use policies for AI, guidelines for ensuring academic integrity, privacy and data security, and more.
School administrators will also find a range of practical tools, including worksheets and templates that schools can use and adapt to their own unique contexts.
Collectively, this work ties directly to larger state initiatives, driven by Lt. Governor Jon Husted’s AI in Education Strategy, and provides a model for how state-level policy can provide guidance to local districts that want to drive innovation with their students, educators, and in their communities.
aiEDU’s work will continue in Ohio in 2025, with more work on AI Readiness, professional development and more.
